Life Care’s Gaynes Park Manor – Winner of the international 2018 Eldercare Innovation Award for Best Silver Architecture in Construction

Published: 25 May 2018

Our intention when designing Gaynes Park Manor was to create a place where people feel like they are living in an apartment, not a hospital. In doing so, our focus was on enabling social interaction, participation in activities, engagement with consistent staff and negating some of the drawbacks of traditional nursing homes including long corridors where residents can end up isolated and lonely.

Gaynes Park Manor was designed to enable residents to live in ‘mini-communities’ of 16 rooms with each room opening directly onto a dedicated kitchen, dining and lounge area. Here people are able to engage in meaningful activities with other residents. It also means that people are never more than a few meters away from others while still being able to enjoy the privacy of their ensuite room.
